Historic Treasure Hunt Turbo Land

Reddit

If there's one thing I've always loved in Magic, it's drawing cards and playing lands. It's no surprise some of my favorite cards are Tireless Tracker and Oracle of Mul Daya, and also why I've never been a huge fan of looting effects or card selection because I don't want to discard my lands... I want to play them!

As such, it's not hard to figure that I've always been a fan of Turbo Land strategies. When Lotus Cobra, Oracle of Mul Daya, and Jace, the Mind Sculptor were in Standard, I was there and ready. I even played Oracle of Mul Daya in an atypical Jund deck (Bloodbraid Elf and friends) at Pro Tour San Diego that played 28 lands and eight creature lands! When it comes to making land drops, I'm all about it.

So, what if I told you there was good reason to play 37 lands in your deck in Historic?

This deck is wild.

Normally Treasure Hunt is reserved for silly meme decks that play all lands and Zombie Infestation or all cycling lands and Zenith Flare, but we've managed to hit a middle ground between "being silly" and "being fair."

Wayward Swordtooth
Dryad of the Ilysian Grove

Treasure Hunt will often draw you around 3-5 cards, and you get to use your Exploration effects in Wayward Swordtooth and Dryad of the Ilysian Grove to dump them all into play. Wayward Swordtooth also provides you with big creature later on, while Dryad of the Ilysian Grove fixes your mana, allows you to use Golos, Tireless Pilgrim, and facilitates Mystic Sanctuary to return Treasure Hunt. And that's of course on top of the land ramp cards we know from Standard in Growth Spiral, Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath, and Arboreal Grazer.

Field of the Dead

Of course, none of this would work without Field of the Dead, as the deck's sole purpose is literally to just draw and play as many lands as possible. Field of the Dead turns that into a very painless win condition, and is very difficult to overcome.

If you like off the wall competitive decks, this one's for you!
