Second Place Pro Tour Goblins

Reddit

One of the interesting things about my Monday video here on CoolStuffInc.com is that it is usually recorded on the prior Friday. There's always a lead time when it comes to editing and production, which means that I am often playing a deck without knowing the results of that weekend's events.

Muxus, Goblin Grandee

Well, it looks like I picked a pretty good one!

Time Stamps:

00:05:05 - Match 1

00:15:58 - Match 2

00:41:16 - Match 3

00:54:45 - Match 4

01:02:46 - Match 5

01:04:29 - Match 6

Autumn Burchett has to be considered one of the best players in the world right now, so when I saw their unique take on the fairly typical Mono-Red Muxus Goblins build I was already interested. Of course, it was only round one or two when I started recording so I couldn't have known they would take it all the way to the finals of the event!

Herald's Horn
Mind Stone

While Autumn was felled in the finals by uw Control (with maindeck Aether Gust and Grafdigger's Cage), their version of the deck was unique thanks to two artifact accelerators. Herald's Horn has been a phenomenal sideboard card for me when playing the deck, providing both acceleration but more importantly a never-ending stream of Goblins in your longer grindier games. Playing it maindeck when three and four color Thoughtseize/Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath piles are the toast of the format is excellent. Decks that can counter or Thoughtseize Muxus can be tough and that's exactly where Herald's Horn shines. Mind Stone is a bit simpler, as the deck is sometimes lacking for 2-drops and wants to cast Muxus as fast as possible, so it makes a lot of sense.

People often assume that Goblins is a "mindless" deck to play, but that hasn't been true for past Goblin decks and nor is it true for this one. Watching Autumn navigate through seas of interaction and removal was a treat to watch and it's no secret why they ended up all the way in the finals.

If you're looking to either start or continue your journey with Goblins in Historic, this is where you want to be!
