Some things in Magic are timeless.
For example, no matter the format, time, or place, you can bet there will be someone playing a bunch of red 1-drops and burn spells and trying to finish their match with plenty of time for a lunch break, it's just part of the game.
Well, it goes for control players too!

There have been a lot of artifact cards printed into Standard over the last few years, from The Brothers' War to Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, but it's taken The Lost Caverns of Ixalan and the craft mechanic to finally put them all together into a deck. Magic Online user BERNASTORRES took this deck to a 5-0 in an MTGO League, where it's been floating around in the results for a while.
From Icy Manipulator and Wrath of God to Braided Net // Braide Quipu and Unstable Glyphbridge // Sandswirl Wanderglyph, the classic control shell may wear new skin but has the same old soul. Utilizing the craft mechanic from The Lost Caverns of Ixalan extensively, this deck looks to be a total board control deck, with sweepers and Braided Net to keep your opponent's board under control while you get set up for your big craft plays.
There's no counterspells in the maindeck here; this is a pure board control deck that is almost entirely made of artifacts, so the mana ramp as well as craft effects work splendidly. Your artifacts kill things, draw cards, and in the case of Thousand Moons Smithy // Barracks of the Thousand and Chimil, the Inner Sun, provide an excellent endgame.
Obviously, this set of games could have gone better, but there's definitely something very real happening here, so control players take notice!
