The Hottest Mythics from Dominaria United

Reddit

Hello everyone! I'm Levi from The Thought Vessel Show, and today we're back to look at the Top 10 Mythic Rares from Dominaria United. As one of the most famous planes in Magic: The Gathering lore, it's always a pleasure to return to Dominaria. For this list, we're focusing specifically on cards with impactful or interesting interactions in the Commander format. However, before diving into the top ten, we have an honorable mention.

Honorable Mention

Timeless Lotus

As a legendary artifact, this card could find its way into five-color, legends-matter decks. While 5 mana is steep for a mana rock, even one that produces as much mana as this, we already play cards like Gilded Lotus, which only generates three. I see Timeless Lotus making an impact in very niche strategies.

Number Ten

Ajani, Sleeper Agent

The Oathbreaker brewer in me loves the idea of building a Selesnya infect deck around this card. However, in its current form, this Ajani offers the usual package: card advantage and +1/+1 counter synergies. The "Compleated" mechanic is underrated, as it allows for an earlier, weaker version of the planeswalker to accelerate your game plan or avoid combat threats.

Number Nine

Shanna, Purifying Blade

Shanna has quickly become a pioneer in the Commander space, unlocking lifegain synergies in Bant colors which really wasn't a viable option prior to this. Turning lifegain into card advantage can snowball a player into a dominant position, making this card a powerful addition to decks focused on incremental value.

Number Eight

Karn, Living Legacy

With abilities that produce power stones, provide card advantage, and offer a game-ending emblem, this planeswalker has a lot to like. As a colorless card, it can fit into virtually any deck. While its applications are more niche, Karn has immense potential in the decks willing to optimize its unique abilities.

Number Seven

Zur, Eternal Schemer

The last Zur was an absolute toolbox for control strategies. This time, we get a completely different style. In the 99 of a deck, Zur can shine in enchantment-heavy builds, such as Go-Shintai of Life's Origin. Its ability to grant hexproof to enchantment creatures protects key spells like Painful Quandary, Rhystic Study, and Smothering Tithe and turns them into vicious attackers at the same time. This card and deck are both incredible.

Number Six

Jaya, Fiery Negotiator

Monastery Swiftspear was banned in Pauper due to its power in burn decks, and this planeswalker essentially creates one every turn. These tokens can form a formidable army in a storm deck or one packed with cantrips. Beyond token generation, Jaya offers spot removal, card advantage, and a win-condition emblem. This card truly does it all.

Number Five

Soul of Windgrace

As a spin-off of Lord Windgrace, this card thrives on discarding lands for value. With the right build, this "downside" can turn into an engine for advantage. Its abilities - gaining life, drawing cards, and protecting itself - make it a strong contender for any deck looking to grind value in Jund colors.

Number Four

Serra Paragon

This card is essentially a flying, miniature Sun Titan. Every deck benefits from some form of graveyard interaction to get back valuable pieces, and Serra Paragon provides that at a reasonable four mana. Its versatility and efficiency make it a must-have for many strategies.

Number Three

Silverback Elder

This might be one of the most unsung heroes in the entire set. Green loves to catch creatures by default, this card will turn all those incidental game actions into bonus effects ranging from a passive life gain, to ramping, to actively destroying artifacts and enchantments. In a deck like elves, this card can build up a massive amount of value while also being a 5/7 creature that can get in for attacks.

Number Two

Sheoldred, the Apocalypse

At first glance, this card might seem simple: gain 2 life whenever you draw, and opponents lose 2 life when they draw. However, Sheoldred has made massive waves in both Commander and competitive 60-card formats. The life swing it generates can outright win games, especially in decks designed to force card draw, such as wheel strategies. Personally, I enjoy cloning this card to double - or even quadruple - the damage dealt for every card drawn.

Number One

Jodah, the Unifier

It's rare for a card to outshine Sheoldred, but this is Commander, after all. Jodah is absurdly powerful, combining the effects of both Sliver Legion and The First Sliver - but exclusively for legendary permanents. When this card was first spoiled, it felt too good to be real. Its ability to single handedly win games earns it the top spot as the best mythic rare in Dominaria United.

And there you have it - the Top 10 Mythics from Dominaria United! As always, if you're looking to pick up any of these amazing cards, there's no better place than right here at CoolStuffInc. Until next time, happy gaming!
