Hello Everyone! I'm Levi from "The Thought Vessel Show," and today we're looking at some more budget bombs for Commander. This time we are focusing on Duskmourn. To make this list, the price of the card has to be under $1.00 here on Coolstuffinc at the time of writing this article. We're not ranking these cards in any particular order this time; we're just celebrating some sweet cards at sweeter prices. Let's begin!
1. Vengeful Possession
We already have plenty of temporary theft cards that see play in Commander, especially in aristocrat decks or decks with abundant sacrifice outlets available. Vengeful Possession also comes with the added benefit of replacing itself with a drawn card. It's a small upgrade, but at $0.35, it is a card to note.
2. Twitching Doll
Not only does this card come in at a good price at $0.99, but it also wins the prize for creepiest art in a horror-themed set, which is quite impressive. It's nice having mana dorks that can also provide alternative value later in games, like Twitching Doll. Being able to trade the Doll out for a horde of 2/2 spiders is solid. It should be noted that the effect is "sacrifice" and not "exile," meaning you can get death triggers or even bring it back into play to use again.
3. Arabella, Abandoned Doll
Speaking of creepy dolls, next up might be the strongest legendary creature in this set, Arabella! In a go-wide strategy, dealing that X damage to EACH opponent and gaining that life really adds up and can take players out incredibly quickly. It can be so fast that many Commander decks may not be prepared for it. The crazy thing is, usually when we talk about a card like this, that card isn't going for as little as $0.75. This card is great!
4. Restricted Office // Lecture Hall
We can't have a Duskmourn list without at least one room. Board wipes are one of the more boring parts of Commander, but Restricted Office lets you sweep the board and then later gain that privileged position effect from Lecture Hall to keep your things safe from spot removal. Bonus points for being in Azorius, but this is a very fundamentally solid card with that protection and board-wiping. Strangely enough, this card only goes for $0.49.
5. Winter, Misanthropic Guide
We really haven't seen a stax-like Commander in Jund colors before, but Winter is here. This is a really interesting card and can do quite a number on your opponents' resources if they're not prepared to remove it. It may not be the most "fun" Commander, but there is an appetite for stax-like effects, and at $0.75, I think we'll see this card gain in popularity over the years.
6. Victor, Valgavoth's Seneschal
In an enchantment deck like Go-Shintai of Life's Origin, this card is going to put in work. Being able to consistently force discarding on each opponent and reanimate creatures can really turn the tide of the game in your favor as your opponents drown in your value. All of this for $0.49. Is this a niche card? Absolutely! But in those decks that would appreciate this card, it is worth its weight in gold.
7. Waltz of Rage
I always love this kind of card in Voltron decks that are going to have a creature with high power to use the effects and wipe out the whole board. Waltz of Rage fits the bill. For each of your creatures, not just non-token ones, that dies, you get an impulse draw to help replace your lost cards. For $0.49, give this card a try in your Voltron deck.
8. Niko, Light of Hope
I love this card as a Commander. In fact, I have a deck tech on Niko on this very website, going over the wonderfully broken things you can do. Niko as a blink Commander is incredibly powerful for brewers who have the patience to balance out the effects of blink targets and blink effects to get more shards. I cannot recommend this card enough, and it can be picked up for $0.99.
9. Ghostly Dancers
We're back looking at enchantress cards because there are so many in this set. 3/1 flying tokens can really add up in a casual deck. Getting a 3/1 flyer for each enchantment entering or room unlocked can get a board state out of control quickly. The 1 toughness can also be helpful for Skullclamp and other effects. This card is going for $0.75.
10. Marina Vendrell
And we conclude our list with the main event herself, Marina Vendrell. Originally designed as a rooms Commander, Marina Vendrell keeps those same synergies with all enchantments, making her one of, if not the best, five-color enchantress Commanders to date with that entering effect to get your best enchantment off of the top seven cards. For a little more spice, try adding a blink package with cards like Thassa, Deep-Dwelling to get her ability again and again. For as little as $0.40, this card is a powerhouse in waiting.
And there you have it! These are some scary powerful budget bombs from Duskmourn: House of Horror. As always, if you are looking to pick any of these up for your decks, Coolstuffinc has you covered. Until next time, happy gaming!
