Treasure Hunt, May 27

Reddit

Mike Robles here! This week, I am going to bring you the best of the best of the best of the Internet. It’s my job to ensure that I find the coolest, craziest, most interesting Magic: The Gathering–related treasure, and that’s just what I have done (this week). I have sketches, deck boxes, tokens, real-world happenings, and a lot more! So, what are you waiting for? I can’t enjoy all this treasure by myself.

Four! Four Vampire Tokens!

Source: Instagram

Everyone’s favorite number-loving vampire Count von Count is given a darker look in these tokens, created by Magic artist RK Post. Spotting these tokens on Instragam, I knew they had to be shared. Magic: The Gathering offers such a rich history of characters, so it’s easy to mash up the Multiverse with any other pop-culture phenomenon. Custom tokens are a huge hit within the Magic community, and with a great artist like RK Post creating them, you can bet your mythics that these tokens will make your buddies envious. In fact, you can count on it.

Finn the Deck Box

It’s no secret that I love Adventure Time. Last Halloween, my fiancée and I were Finn and Princess Bubblegum. I’d go into further details about my love for this show, but frankly, I don’t have the time. If you really want to know more about my love for the show, just ask me on Twitter. Right now, I just want to point out that I want this deck box—pure and simple. It combines my love for both Magic: The Gathering and Adventure Time. I would create a Humans deck just for this deck box. I would carry this deck box in my Finn backpack right next to my Card Wars cards and Finn Sword. The only thing that would make me want this deck box even more would be if there was a deck box that looked like BMO. Oh, what’s that? There is one? Well, now I must have both of them.

Mega Magic Man

Speaking of all this pop-culture phenomenon that mixes well with Magic’s flavor, I love when my favorite video game characters intertwine with my favorite card game. So, what can you do when you have a ton of extra Magic cards lying around? You can make art! Mega Man, Mario, the Companion Cube, and more can be found at the link. Someone needs to make a Nicol Bolas out of Magic cards. It would be so meta.

99 Problems

Source: Reddit

Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts hasn’t always had it easy. She sees dead people. I can’t imagine what it would be like to deal with ghosts all day. Regardless, I really enjoy this sketch for a number of reasons. This image was posted to Reddit, and I wish I knew the artist’s reasoning behind choosing some of these ghosts! The artist managed to not only include talk show host Tad Ghostal (a.k.a. Space Ghost), but even Hi Five Ghost from Regular Show makes an appearance! I hope the artist continues to add more and more ghosts. I’d love to see The Hitchhiking Ghosts make an appearance.

Izzet Your Birthday?

Source: Reddit

Reddit user BlueAtari turned thirty, and his wonderful wife had this cake made for him. Using his age to create the casting cost, she included some clever puns that would give LSV a run for his money. This is an awesome idea that any friends or significant others can surprise their loved Magic players with, even if they aren’t fellow Magic players. It’s a great-looking cake, and I hope BlueAtari had the happiest of birthdays!

Scouts Honor

Source: Reddit

Jester’s Playhouse in New Jersey posted this photo of a local Boy Scout troupe earning their Game Design Badge by playing Magic: The Gathering. It’s been said before that no game of Magic is ever the same. Different decks rely on different mechanics and strategies, so in one match of Magic, there are two different games being played—one by you, and one by your opponent. The end goal for both of you is the same; it’s how you achieve the goal that varies. A lot of schools use Magic to help with reading and math, and I’m happy to see this scout troupe using Magic: The Gathering as a game-design tool. It’s great to love a game that is not merely a fun hobby, but helps children learn important skills, decision making, and strategy.

Chandra – CONTAIN’S STRIP SEARCH SPOILERS!

Source: Twitter

In the most recent Strip Search episode, we saw Tavis Maiden eliminated from the competition. I’ve been following him on Twitter for a while now, and he is one busy man. He has a son and recently a new daughter. While at Phoenix Comicon, he began to sketch out the face of Magic 2014 Chandra Nalaar. As you can see from the drawing, Chandra’s trademark snark and Tavis’s style come together very nicely. I really hope Tavis continues to draw Magic: The Gathering characters. I would love to see his vision of other planeswalkers.

The Greatest Play Mat Ever

This was spotted last week at Card Kingdom during a Lady Planeswalkers Society Draft. It’s the greatest play mat ever. Can you handle the majesty of Neil Patrick Harris riding a unicorn? There is no greater spectacle.

Top Tweets (This Week)

That will do it for me this week. Every week, I become excited to see treasures from the Magic community. Keep sending me tweets, messages, and more, and I’ll make sure I include as much as I can in my articles. This is Mike Robles wondering:
