Magic Foundations Releases

Foundations - and by extension Foundations Jumpstart - have finally been fully released! You can pick up one of the coolest core sets of all time now at your local game store, big box location, or play digitally on MTG Arena and Magic Online. Alchemy and Historic Bans and Rebalances

As is typical every week, the MTG Arena team released their weekly announcements regarding the platform. This time around, several bans and rebalances were revealed for Alchemy and Historic. Chief among these were the bannings of Monstrous Rage and Temporal Manipulation. Monstrous Rage was noted as being too tight of a design to rebalance appropriately, while the newly printed (via Special Guests) Temporal Manipulation is a functional reprint of a card that's already on the ban list in Time Warp. Additionally, several notable cards were rebalanced, such as both Leyline of Resonance and Heartfire Hero. Even Nadu, Winged Wisdom got a rebalance as well thanks to its power level in Historic Brawl.

Sheldon's Spellbook Raises Over Two Million Dollars

It's been a little over a year now since Sheldon Menery, the godfather of Commander, passed away. In his honor, Wizards of the Coast collaborated with him prior to his death to create a secret lair of cards featuring Sheldon and beloved aspects of his life. This lair went on sale earlier this year in February and March with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. This week, the American Cancer Society posted to Reddit announcing the total raised was a staggering $2,140,640. Gavin Verhey released his own video covering it, noting that it was also the largest charitable amount raised at once in the entire history of Hasbro! An outstanding accomplishment in memory of Sheldon by the community.

Foundations hit digital clients earlier this week, meaning we're finally starting to get our first batches of lists utilizing the new cards. Very few decks are changing that much, with the notable inclusion of Llanowar Elves to several Golgari Midrange lists. However, the new kid on the block are the cool new Boros Prowess builds. Previously Gruul, these lists play into the new addition of Boros Charm as well as taking advantage of the boons that Sheltered by Ghosts provides. If you're looking for a deck to play as the new Standard RCQ season ramps up, this should provide you with an awesome option to jump in with.
