Over 1800 players descended upon Dulles, Virginia this past weekend for their shot at the Pro Tour with the SCG Con Regional Championship! The weekend was full of excellent coverage and a truly diverse metagame with fairly reasonable win rates across the board. Cory Lack took it all down with a mighty showing utilizing Rakdos Cauldron (aka Rakdos Tree). You can find all the coverage here (day one and day two) as well as Frank Karsten's breakdown of the overall metagame here.

It's once again time for another MTGO Creator Showdown event happening this weekend! This time around, the folks at Daybreak Games are showcasing the lesser known Duel Commander (aka 1v1 Commander or French Commander). This is in celebration of the format's recent addition to the Magic Online client. Make sure to check out your favorite streamers (including myself!) this Saturday starting at 9AM PST, or else check out the official Magic Online Twitch page to catch some feature matches.
Decklist of the Week
Rakdos Cauldron | Pioneer | Cory Lack, 1st Place SCG Con DC Regional Championship
- Companion (1)
- 1 Jegantha, the Wellspring
- Creatures (18)
- 2 Marvin, Murderous Mimic
- 4 Bloodtithe Harvester
- 4 Fear of Missing Out
- 4 Tree of Perdition
- 4 Voldaren Thrillseeker
- Instants (5)
- 1 Torch the Tower
- 4 Fatal Push
- Sorceries (6)
- 2 Duress
- 4 Thoughtseize
- Enchantments (4)
- 4 Fable of the Mirror-Breaker // Reflection of Kiki-Jiki
- Artifacts (4)
- 4 Agatha's Soul Cauldron
As noted above, Cory Lack took down the Regional Championship utilizing the Rakdos Cauldron list. This deck is well known for its utilization of Agatha's Soul Cauldron in combination with Tree of Perdition to quickly sap away an opponent's life total and then deal a finishing blow by any number of ways. This deck recently saw further innovation thanks to Marvin, Murderous Mimic, which enables you to do the Tree combo without a Tree under a Cauldron. Simply have a Tree on the battlefield and Marvin can copy its ability no problem, then take out your opponent with ease. The deck was seen as an underdog by many, and it was no small feat to see it go the distance here. Congratulations Cory!
