Sapphire Highlights from Lorcana Ursula's Return

Reddit

Wow, I feel like spoiler season just started yesterday. Re-reviewing all of these cards after Disney Lorcana Challenge in Atlanta feels so refreshing, and I'm really excited to see where the meta game takes us to this set. Let's see where Sapphire lines up with the rest of the inks.

Anna - True-Hearted is a solid character if you're interested in putting together a Sapphire/X Hero tribal deck. Her ability allows her to quest and grant all other Hero characters you have in play an additional lore for questing. This is great for strong go-wide strategies early on to maintain a massive lore advantage early on, granting you higher tempo and options for closing out the game while your opponent struggles to keep up. I enjoyed her in a sealed format and I can definitely see her used in the right constructed deck as well.

We couldn't have a set focused on Ursula without Ariel, right? And boy, do we have an extremely strong one to talk about. Ariel - Treasure Collector is a 6-cost uninkable character that can quest for up to 5 lore, given that you have more items in play than your opponent. Given that Sapphire is well known for items, this should not be difficult to pull off. She has Ward, which helps prevent her from being targeted. This makes her an ideal target for Lucky Dime since you'll only need to quest with her to close out the game. I've seen her end up in more Ruby/Sapphire and Steel/Sapphire decks, and it totally makes sense why.

Now this is a card I became extremely excited about during spoiler season. Ruby/Sapphire lacked early game threat mitigation to deal with aggro opponents, but now not only do we get a body on the board, but the ability to dig for even more items for future turns. Scuttle - Expert on Humans is a 2-cost inkable character that has 1 Strength and 3 Willpower. This helps when having to challenge smaller lore heavy aggro characters, such as Cursed Merfolk and Pinnochio.

Sapphire's first Legendary of Ursula's Return, The Queen - Diviner, is a 3 cost inkable character that allows you to exert her dig your deck for even more items. If you do find one from the top 4 of your deck and it costs 3 or less, you get to put it in play for free, exerting it in the process. This is a great way to look for more on play or passive effects from cheaper items, such as Pawpsicle or Fortisphere. I haven't seen much high level play with her yet, but we definitely still have some time to brew with her for a bit. Make sure to keep an eye on her for any item combo heavy decks.

Our second Sapphire Legendary of the set, Triton - Champion of Atlantis is an extremely top heavy character that we're looking to try and shift in as early as possible to secure our locations. As you continue to play more locations, his value grows just as much. There's a world where we may see location centric decks where we can utilize Triton, Vault Door, and The Wall - Border Fortress to really throw a wrench in the opponent's works. Given that he can quest for 3 lore, he would be a solid choice in any location-centric deck.

If I was able to predict how impactful this card would be in a Ruby/Sapphire deck, it would be a complete understatement. Given that Ruby has cards like Brawl and Madame Medusa, no character at 4 or less attack is safe. Having more than one on the field can even be catastrophic with the right cards that synergize with direct removal. Ice Block's versatility comes in many forms, as it's a cheap item to feed to a Hiram Flaversham, enable Ariel that we mentioned above, or utilize the -1 attack to make favorable trades when challenging. I can definitely see this being a must have across any Sapphire/X deck

Conclusion

Ursula's Return brings additional tools and resources for Sapphire in the form of characters and items in this set. We've showcased a few for you to consider for your next deck. Are you looking to utilize a few Ice Blocks to help get rid of some high attack threats? What about Ariel - Treasure Collector to help close out games? Let me know your thoughts here if I've missed any of your favorites@_EmeraldWeapon_.
