Hello Illumineers! We're back at it again this week for your updates in the world of Disney Lorcana. This week, we're going to focus on the last set championships for some of you, as well as the opening day of Disney Lorcana Challenge: Seattle, which I happen to be at. With Azurite Seas nearing release, we have a plethora of new reveals to share with you too. We'll start with the remaining set championships.
Last Weekend of Shimmering Skies Set Championships
The month of October is nearly fleeting and we have one more weekend of Set Championships to attempt to earn the Mirabel Madrigal card and matching mat. By now, you should have a pretty good idea on what to play or tech with in your local meta. Here are some suggestions if you're still stuck on what deciding to play with:
- If your local meta has a lot of aggro, consider a deck with Steel. Amber/Steel does well controlling the board with removal and flooding the board with strong questers.
- If your local meta has a lot of control, specifically Ruby/Sapphire, you'll want to choose a deck that's aggro or low to the ground. Ruby Sapphire needs a lot of pieces to close the game and you need to exploit that weakness.
- If your local meta has a lot of Emerald/Steel Discard players, you might want to consider something that can deal with Ward and Evasive. Targeted removal and Grab Your Sword from. Sapphire Steel could be a good call.
There's a lot of competitors and attendees heading to Seattle, so this might be one of the easier weekends to compete. If this is your last shot this weekend, I wish you luck!
Opening Day at Disney Lorcana Challenge: Seattle
Today is the start of the last DLC of this year's circuit in Seattle, the home of Ravensburger. Here, we're expecting a showing of players from both regions battling it out for not only the coveted Golden Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Tailor, but a shot at the intercontinental championships, facing off against other top performers from previous DLCs. I'm here as of Friday looking to enjoy some side events before the main event on Saturday, and hoping to secure a spot in day two for the finals. This would be my 3rd DLC attempt, and it's bittersweet. Compared to the first DLC in Atlanta, it really seems like Ravensburger has used previous events and feedback to continue building upon an amazing experience for not only competitive players, but casuals and collectors as well. I'm really happy to see the growth of the program, and I'm eagerly waiting to hear news about not only Worlds, which happens to be in Walt Disney World - Orlando this year, but the following season as well.
Here are some tips to make the best of your experience to not only this DLC, but any moving forward:
If you're competing in any constructed events
Make sure your decklists have been submitted to the correct destinations. The organizer requires a photo of your deck with a timestamp including your name and date. Failure to do some may result in disqualification from the event. Make sure you're using a fresh set of sleeves. Not only is that first shuffle feeling truly magical, but you avoid situations where opponents could consider your cards marked due to sleeve conditions (bent corners, rips, discoloration.) I personally use a new set of sleeves every day just to avoid any issues.
If you've signed up for sealed events
Sleeves may not be necessary, but just in case you pull a valuable card, I would consider using them for your deck. Not only do you avoid damaging your cards, but it'll be easier to shuffle as well. The only event that I feel you may not need sleeves for are pack rush events, since they're only two packs and the games are generally very short.
If you've signed up for meet and greets
If you're lucky enough, you got a chance to meet some of the Ravensburger staff or artists for the event. Follow the details of your invite to check-in for the event and try to weave the experience in-between rounds of your constructed event if you're participating. Otherwise, enjoy the experience because it is truly a fun one. I've met Ryan Miller (co-creator of Lorcana) twice, and I am meeting Steve Warner (co-creator of Lorcana) for the first time in Seattle.
Azurite Seas Reveals
Last but not least, here are a few of this week's reveals from Ravensburger and other content creators:
