Top Ten New Cards from MTG Foundations Jumpstart!

Reddit

Hello happy casual table players and enthusiasts I hope your day is going super mega well! Welcome to my first Top Ten of the new cards from the Jumpstarts 2025 debuted with MTG Foundations. This is just for new cards not the many repeats, and for formats like Commander, other Highlander and multiplayer formats and then also Five Color, Type Four, Peasant and Pauper and more! If it's casual it counts. This is a Green and Red top-heavy set, so get ready!

Honorable Mention #1. (#14. Overall) - Eidolon of Astral Winds

Eidolon of Astral Winds

This three-drop 2/4 vigilance enchantment Spirit dork is first today! It's got constellation for it or another enchantment to arrive to make a dork you control a base power of 4/4 and flying too. That's a very different and unique take on the constellation ETB stuff to increase size and give evasion too. Note it for decks that often need help to smash.

Honorable Mention #2. (#13. Overall) - Dionus, Elvish Archdruid

Dionus, Elvish Archdruid

This four-drop 3/3 is next! He's a legendary Elf Druid. He gives your Elves (him too) the ability to untap when they tap on your turn and grow with a +1/+1 counter, but just once per turn. That's great on attacking Elves or tapping for mana like Priest of Titania or gaining life like Wellwisher. We all know how beloved Elves are at the kitchen table, and this plays on them nicely as a leader or in in 99.

Honorable Mention #3. (#12. Overall) - Fumulus, the Infestation

Fumulus, the Infestation

This four-cost legendary Commanderable Vampire Insect with flying and deathtouch is next! When any player (your foes' too!!) sacs that nontoken dork? Make a free 1/1 Black Insect with flying! There is no once/turn break there like with others. Then when your Insects, Leeches, Slugs or Worms swing? Your defending foe loses a life and you'll gain it too, for each one that swung. This is an Aristocrats leader or 99, as well as a leader of that kindred types, and since it makes one, that's pretty strong from where I am sitting. Love its potential loads and there are a few ways to stretch it. And don't forget that flying and deathtouch with it too. I hope you love it as much as I do!!

Honorable Mention #4. (#11. Overall) - Thurid, Mare of Destiny

Thurid, Mare of Destiny

This four-drop 2/4 flying lifelink Pegasus legendary is next! It has a cast trigger for that creature type, or Unicorns or Horses to copy the spell, the copied dork is a token. Then the team will get +1/+1 so this is a Lord for them too. Love this Commander eligible leading a new kindred type with not much love before. Love it lots!

#10. Gornog, the Red Reaper

Gornog, the Red Reaper

This three mana 2/3 red legendary with haste is next! It has the epic and rare phrase that "Cowards can't block Warriors" rarely printed. This is the first time on a Commander eligible dork. When it or more Warriors swing you can make their dork a Coward. Note that's one per attack, no matter how many swing, but they don't stop being a Coward. Also note that your Warriors swinging are pumped in power based on the opposing Corward count...nasty, great stuff! You can run this leading a Warrior deck or in the 99.

#9. Shroofus Sproutsire

Shroofus Sproutsire

Baby's first Saproling in cardboard non-token form is a Commander eligible three-drop in 1/1 trample with a combat damage trigger for it and others in the creature type to make 1/1 Saprolings. For each damage dealt... Wowzer Bowzer that's great stuff, since loads of dorks like to sac them for various effects. Get your swing and mass making on with this! Just add power like Rancor and stir.

#8. Sandstorm Crasher

Sandstorm Crasher

It costs four, great, and then for a 3/4 with trample for evasion. Then you can exert it when it swings to make a hasted and attacking token that's a copy of any dork you control, for the turn only. That's a beloved ability like Kiki-Jiki, but it's easier to cast and then you can get your swing on. Love it loads with ETB or leaves play or more, like Solemn Simulacrum or Avalanche Riders. Get your swing and copy on!

#7. Scythecat Cub

Scythecat Cub

Fun landfall times await with this two-drop on curve 2/2 Bear and cost in rare and Green with trample. It's landfall perma-pumps it with one +1/+1 counter the first time it resolves, then the next time? Double those counters! Do you need me to tell you why it's here? I hope not!

#6. Pol Jamaar, Illusionist

Pol Jamaar, Illusionist

This six-drop legendary mythic 4/5 flying is our final spot before the Top 5 proper! This has an amazing ETB ability to draw equal to your count of critters equal to your greatest shared creature type. You can lead a deck with him, but he's mono-Blue so you'd need a good tribe like Merfolk or his Illusion type. Or Wizards, his too! Or you can just add him to every kindred deck with his color too. Good stuff for the win-tough.

#5. Braulios of Pheres Band

Braulios of Pheres Band

This uncommon five-drop legendary dork is next! It has size equal to your land size - win con and Commander Damage if played in that role! When it swings you can draw, and then ramp a land to increase its size. Card draw and ramp too? Nasty three set and note the land is untapped and ready to be used! I adore this as a Commander or adjunct in the 99, it's also a Five Color essential. Love it loads there as a one turn kill combined with ramp and card draw on an admittedly non-evasive threat, but a Rancor will answer that!

#4. Neerdiv, Devious Diver

Neerdiv, Devious Diver

This three-drop three words in the title is fourth, sorry symmetry fans. When it's tapped one player mills its power, so minimum two. Then when you cast a spell from your graveyard or activate an ability there? You can draw and then also toss a counter of the +1/+1type here for bigger and bigger digs from the tapping, so there is great internal synergy if you choose to mill yourself. Note that the latter ability isn't limited to just once per turn. It's also legendary to lead your next Commander brew or an adjunct to mill, flashback, reanimation, or even Aristocrats with a self-recursive dork that can keep on returning over and over again like Reassembling Skeleton. Get this all up and down!

#3. Rev, Tithe Extractor

Rev, Tithe Extractor

When you attack, one dork gains deathtouch. No matter how many attack just the one gets it. Then when one of your dorks deals combat damage to someone's face, you'll exile the top card of their library face down and you can cast it. You'll also make a Treasure to cast it, since you'll need that mana and there is no mana washing here, you have to use that mana. Run here Manaliths like Decanter of Endless Water or Fellwar Stone over stuff in your color identity like Commander's Sphere or Arcane Signet. She is runnable as a Commander and nasty as a bull running if you do, but she's way too powerful, so skip her as the leader. She is also a Five Color essential making Treasures and casts. But note that's one exile no matter how many dorks dealt combat damage, so first strike and double strike will do that twice. And with her deathtouch? They won't want to block then. Get ready for her dominant era to begin!

#2. General Kreat, the Boltbringer

General Kreat, the Boltbringer

You'll love this if you love Goblins. Why? Well, when your Goblins swing you also make a free 1/1 attacking and tapped 1/1. Note that's not him, just any Goblin. Then whenever another dork ETBs, you'll ping each foe for one damage. We know how much Goblins love to fill out the board with things like Krenko, and that in legendary form for your Commandering interests is nasty good whether or not you adore this type! Get your swing on!

#1. Go Forth AND Sutina, Speaker of the Tajuru

Go Forth
Sutina, Speaker of the Tajuru

Our highest-charting cards include this one-cost common instant that will either a combat trick Giant Growth for a smaller size or seach for a basic and toss it into your hand, so an instant speed Lay of the Land! Both of those one one-cost card is evisveratingy good! Then the three-drop 2/2 uncommon Green legendary Elf will ramp a tapping basic on arrival, better than say Civic Wayfinder for the same cost and size to your hand, and then drops to the battlefield. Then this has a swing ttrigger for it to bounce a land (which is a may, so you don't have too) to grow one dork by +1/+1 size as a counter. You can use that self-bouce to power out landfall! I feel like Sutina isn't respected much but should be more. Nasty, am I right? I hope you agree!

I hope you enjoyed today's article and there's my first Top Ten from MTG Foundations Jumpstart of new stuff, see you next week for 10 more!
