Suspensions Lifted for Some Involved in Kozilek Leak

Reddit

In an article released today, Elaine Chase - the Brand Director for Magic provided an updated on the investigation into the leak of Kozilek, the Great Distortion which saw a number of judges have their DCI membership suspended for three months.

Today's decision effectively reduced the suspensions to 23 days, and each of these players is fully reinstated in the DCI. Additionally, the suspensions will not be part of their "permanent record" and will therefore have no bearing on any future interactions with the DCI. We came to this decision based on information gained during the appeals process; anytime someone is suspended from the DCI, they have the ability to appeal and submit new information for consideration. Ten of the twelve players originally suspended for having repeated unauthorized access to confidential information submitted appeals, and each of them has had their penalty commuted. We have reached out to the remaining two players to offer them the opportunity to appeal as well.

Chase acknowledged concerns from the community regarding the idea that players are required to report suspected leaks. To this end, Wizards will announce when the official preview season has begun. The set's page on DailyMTG will then act as a home for all official information with regards to an upcoming release.

Chase went on to reiterate that individuals cannot be punished for discussing cards that have been leaked to a public forum, only those done so privately. If a player suspects what they are seeing is an unofficial leak they are encouraged to contact investigations@wizards.com.

The statement closes by clarifying that these suspensions were the result of a legal investigation, not Organized Play. The two processes are different and through the course of the investigation it became clear that Wizards could do a better job informing the investigated of their case's parameters.

The piece is well worth a read and can be found here.
