Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Standard Set Review: Green and Lands

Reddit

Welcome back everyone. Today we wrap up everything with Green and land cards! Let's see what they have to offer! But before we start, let us go over how I'll be doing this set review.

I will not be going over cards that I believe will not see play in Standard and I will not be going over the Commander cards that will not see Standard play. For example, cards like Ancestral Katana and Golden-Tail Disciple will be omitted since they are just Limited cards and saying, "This is just a Limited card" repeatedly gets old rather fast. Do not worry though, I will be covering all the rare and mythic cards in the actual Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty set. So, if you like a certain rare or mythic, it will be mentioned in the review.

Keep in mind I'm rating all these cards for Standard playability. I will mention Modern applications if I believe the card has some.

Each card will be listed by color, then alphabetically by name.

Each card will be given a rating of 1-5. If a card would receive a 0, meaning it will see no play in that format ever, its rating is left off the list.

Rating | Explanation | Standard Examples

0 - Will never see play in this format (0 ratings are not listed).

1 - Unlikely to see play. (Divine Gambit)

2 - Could see fringe play, or occasional sideboard card. (Disdainful Stroke, Annul, Candletrap, Shadows' Verdict)

3 - Commonly played, staple in a single deck, or frequent play in several decks. (Righteous Valkyrie, Behold the Multiverse, Farewell)

4 - Format staples. Sees play in multiple decks, one of the best cards in the format. (Saw it Coming, Werewolf Packleader, Elite Spellbinder, Ranger Class)

5 - Format warping. If you are in these colors, you play that card or keep that card in mind when building decks. (Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Hullbreaker Horror)

Now that we have that out of the way, let's begin!

Green

Careful Cultivation
Careful Cultivation - 3 - I like this one as mana creature from the channel ability. Especially since it is instant speed, and it works well with Esika's Chariot.
Jugan Defends the Temple // Remnant of the Rising Star
Jugan Defends the Temple // Remnant of the Rising Star - 2.5 - 3 mana for a mana creature is a lot. I am not sure how relevant the counters are, but you will have to build your deck to make it relevant. Some sort of modified Green deck.
Invoke the Ancients
Invoke the Ancients - 3.5 - This card is powerful, it is 5 mana for 8/10 over two creatures that are tokens. This means they work well with Esika's Chariot. Only problem is it competes with Wrenn and Seven and I think Wrenn pulls slightly ahead here. Still an excellent card.
Kami of Transience
Kami of Transience - 2.5 - Card seems all right for a gw Enchantment deck, but I think we have better options for that deck then Kami of Transience.
Kappa Tech-Wrecker
Kappa Tech-Wrecker - 3 - Honestly this card seems great for Green decks. It is a 1/3 Deathtouch that can also blow-up artifacts and enchantments. I kind of like it more than Outland Liberator // Frenzied Trapbreaker.
Kura, the Boundless Sky
Kura, the Boundless Sky - 2 - All these dragons aren't playable in Standard. Again, just too slow because of death triggers and get hit by Vanishing Verse. Compare any of these to something like Goldspan Dragon and they fall extremely short.
March of Burgeoning Life
March of Burgeoning Life - 2 - Not a fan that this one must target a creature already in play to grab and that the creature you grab comes into play tapped. I really think both those things really hinder it but maybe it is too powerful if it was the other way around.
Shigeki, Jukai Visionary
Shigeki, Jukai Visionary - 2.5 - 4 mana for one land that you must split over two turns is rough. It does fuel your graveyard, and you must be using your graveyard for this card to be worth it, otherwise play any other ramp spell.
Spring-Leaf Avenger
Spring-Leaf Avenger - 2 - Not the most agile ninja... That's a lot of mana to Ninjutsu. It also does not have evasion and Green can produce card advantage in better ways.
Teachings of the Kirin // Kirin-Touched Orochi
Teachings of the Kirin // Kirin-Touched Orochi - 3 - Two-mana for a 2/2 and a 1/1 with abilities. Another good, modified creature enabler for Green!
The Dragon-Kami Reborn // Dragon-Kami's Egg
The Dragon-Kami Reborn // Dragon-Kami's Egg - 2.5 - Super meme card but I love it! Really need a Brainstorm type card in Standard to abuse it though. Without it, it is just fun gambling.
Weaver of Harmony
Weaver of Harmony - 4 - Absolutely excellent creature for an enchantment creature deck. It is a two-mana lord with an insane ability for your triggers. There will be a competitive enchantment deck and Weaver of Harmony will slot right into it.

Top 5 Green Cards

  1. Weaver of Harmony
  2. Invoke the Ancients
  3. Careful Cultivation
  4. Kappa Tech-Wrecker
  5. Teachings of the Kirin // Kirin-Touched Orochi

Green is the same as Black in this set: nothing crazy powerful by itself but cards that ask you to build around a bit. I will say that I do believe gw Enchantments will be a house after seeing all the cards. Let's finish up with the lands!

Lands

Boseiju, Who Endures
The Channel Lands - 4-5 - You just play at least one of these in every deck you play. It is just free most of the time over a basic land. The White and Green ones get my vote for the best ones.
Mech Hangar
Mech Hangar - 3 - Super solid in the vehicle deck and I'm betting there will be one with all the support we have. You really don't need a ton of vehicles to make this card worth it.
Roadside Reliquary
Roadside Reliquary - 2.5 - Situational land but good if you can build a deck where this draws you two cards often!
Secluded Courtyard
Secluded Courtyard - 3 - Another solid tribal land for creatures!

The biggest and best cards from this set are channel lands and I think the best card in the set is The Restoration of Eiganjo // Architect of Restoration! That saga is super sweet and extremely powerful. I would seriously consider it in any White deck that I played. Well, that's everything for Kamigawa, thank you so much checking out!
