Hope everyone had a great Halloween! In the spirit of being spoopy, today we are playing Golos Nexus Zombies in Pioneer! I basically took the Golos Nexus deck I was playing in Standard and added some Pioneer cards. It's been fun, but it feels like it really wants a two-mana ramp spell like Farseek or Rampant Growth. Ruin in their Wake and Thunderherd Migration just don't cut it.
Here's the list I played.
Time Stamps:
Match 1 - 00:02:38
Match 2 - 00:26:38
Match 3 - 00:48:11
Match 4 - 01:06:28

Deck is basically a Bant Nexus deck with Golos. The way you are activating Golos is through Cascading Cataracts, but you don't always need to go for it. Sometimes Field of the Dead is the right call. The better ramp spell is Hour of Promise, allowing you to go from 5 lands to 7 lands and turning on Field of the Dead. 7 lands is also the right amount for Nexus of Fate. The deck is just trying to play a long game where you can eventually start looping Nexus of Fates with Golos, Tireless Pilgrim.
The good matchups for this deck are any fair decks, like midrange. The worst matchups are hyper aggro decks or faster combo decks. You can shore up each one with your Sideboard but nobody really knows where the metagame will land. It's why I'm playing 4 Cerulean drakes to combat Mono-Red and Izzet Prowess.
The deck is fun, but I feel like it's missing something to get over that speed bump, I just need to figure out what that card is.
As always thanks for reading and I hope you have wonderful weekend!
