Beat Downs with the Boz — Standard R/W Humans

Reddit

Que the DEV cause I like my beats fast and my curve down low! You know the song. Here we have the aggressive White Humans deck Tom Ross used to win the Atlanta Open. Tom ran through good and bad matches alike and smoked the competition in true "Boss" fashion. This list is extremely fast and hits like a truck. Don't be fooled by the 1- and 2-power creatures you see. With Thalia's Lieutenant, Always Watching, and Consul's Lieutenant, these creatures get out of control. Gryff's Boon and Anointer of Champions ensure you always have attacks and Declaration in Stone is the only removal you need. In the sideboard, we have some nice spice: Reckless Bushwhackers and Needle Spires. These give extra security against sweepers. Your opponent can Languish your board for some card advantage, but, if you can surge a Bushwhacker, you will still have the tempo. All in all this deck gets a 10 out of 10 on the Boz-Beatdown-O-Meter.

Deck Tech

Match 3: G/W Tokens

Match 4: Mardu Midrange

Match 5: Mono-Blue Waterveil

Closing

Like many linear strategies, the draws with this deck are quite polarized. You are usually winning by a landslide or losing in an embarrassing fashion. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it requires a good temperament (turn down the tilt and focus on the larger sample size). Another deck I liked from the Atlanta Open was Bant Humans, piloted by Todd Stevens to a second place finish. It doesn't have as low of a curve, but with Reflector Mage and Collected Company it can generate just as much tempo. Next week, I plan on running that through a few leagues, so stay tuned!

Until next week, GLHF friends. May you smite thy enemies with a Golden Axe!
