Now that we've had a couple of weeks to play around with Bloodbraid Elf, people have started delving past the obvious combinations of Bloodbraid Elf and Liliana of the Veil or Kolaghan's Command. Tireless Tracker is certainly another exciting option, but there's another alternative. Why worry about whether you're cascading into the right answers or value engines when you can just make sure your opponent can't cast spells?

Stone Rain
Land destruction has been a fringe strategy in Modern for quite some time now. Three-mana land destruction isn't quite fast enough on the draw, so mana acceleration is crucial to the success of this deck. Similarly, having a turn two Stone Rain on the play is substantially more powerful than waiting until turn three, given the power of two-drops in Modern.

With archetypes like Tron and greedy midrange decks on the rise, the ability to cut opponents off of key combinations of lands or colors with a high density of Stone Rains and Blood Moons is a pretty exciting prospect. When you take a deck whose stock was already on the rise and supercharge it with Bloodbraid Elf, there's the opportunity for a deck to take the format by storm.

Of course, one of the biggest weaknesses of land destruction strategies is that they traditionally give opponents lots of time to draw out of it. When your deck is packed full of land destruction spells, it's hard to consistently apply pressure to leverage your advantage. With Arbor Elf and Utopia Sprawl, you can easily threaten your opponents with enormous threats like Bloodbraid Elf, Stormbreath Dragon, and Inferno Titan early on in the game to ensure that they never recover from your Stone Rains and Mwonvuli Acid-Mosses.
