White-based humans deck were a real force in the format the first time we went to Innistrad. Since Liliana, the Last Hope entered the format, we’ve seen a real drop off in Human-based aggressive strategies. The combination of efficient Black removal spells, Smuggler's Copter as an efficient blocker, and Liliana, the Last Hope to lock up the late game is a tough combination to overcome. Ocelot823 may have solved this issue by focusing more on being a reasonable midrange deck than an aggro deck:

There are a few important things to note about this deck off the bat. The first is that there are zero creatures that are going to have one toughness on your opponent’s turn. This already shows a concerted effort to avoid losing games outright to Liliana, the Last Hope. Instead, the deck focuses on efficient two-drops, value engines, and grinding out a long-term win by dominating combat.
The defining card of this deck is Duskwatch Recruiter. This serves the important purposes of finding you more creatures to stall out the ground, making it easier to deploy those creatures when the time comes, and particularly digging you towards your haymakers. The two cards which are going to win most of your games are the combination of Thalia's Lieutenant and Heron's Grace Champion. The ability to use Duskwatch Recruiter to ensure that you will consistently have access to multiple copies of this effect throughout the game completely changes how you think about board stalls.
In addition to Duskwatch Recruiter, both Sigarda, Heron's Grace and Tireless Tracker also serve to help make sure that you can generate enough cards to go over the top of your opponent. This is particularly true with Smuggler's Copter to smooth out your early draws and Blossoming Defense to protect key creatures from removal spells.
Thinking of Humans as a midrange deck is a strange shift of mindset, but the theory behind this seems relatively solid. Sure, you’re going to struggle some against decks which can consistently Emrakul, the Promised End you, but you can just go much bigger than most of the other midrange decks, which seems like a pretty good place to be in the current format.
