Turtewald Goes Back to Back in Albuquerque

Reddit

859 players showed up to battle Standard in Albuquerque, New Mexico this weekend. Devotion decks, paticularly of the Black and Blue variety, were the story of the weekend. Nightveil Specter, Pack Rat, and Master of Waves were all over the top tables for the duration of the event, straight through to the final three rounds.

After fifteen rounds of swiss, we had an absolutely incredible caliber of players throughout the Top 32. The Top 8 contained Owen Turtenwald for the second weekend in a row, Sam Black for the fourth tournament running, as well as Sam Pardee, Todd Anderson, and Valentin Mackl. Just outside the Top 8 we had players like Tom Martell, Dusty Ochoa, Matt Sperling, and Pat Cox finishing in the Top 16.

Owen Turtenwald was the player to beat this weekend, fresh off of his first Grand Prix win in Washington DC, and he did not disappoint. Owen went 9-0 on Day One and earned himself sixth place after the six swiss rounds on Day Two. Once in the Top 8, Owen battled past both Joseph Nix and Valentin Mackl before facing Sam Pardee in the finals.

It came down to three very close games, but in the end Owen was able to earn his second Grand Prix title in as many weekends. Congratulations to Owen Turtenwald, Champion of Grand Prix Albuquerque.
