Standard and Block

  • This Week in Standard—With all the hype around spoiler season, Kyle Boggemes needs to remind some of us that there was still Standard being played in Phoenix and online.
  • Lighthouse—Jesse Smith is all over the new looting land that opens up a possibility for U/R Delver and provides Red Deck Wins with a stronger late game.
  • Brewing with Avacyn Restored—($SCG) Gerry Thompson emerges from the laboratory with a stack of proxies and brand new brews.
  • From Hopa With Love—Daniel Pham has been red hot, thanks in part to this Naya deck featuring Huntsmaster of the Fells.
  • Restoring Momentum or Breaking the Game—Alexander Shearer recently wrote about the shift that third sets often bring to a metagame, but to date he hasn’t seen much that doesn’t add to existing archetypes.
  • Brewing with Planeswalkers—Carrie Oliver has found possible homes for Tomiyo, Tibalt, and, as a bonus, a certain hexproof Angel.
  • Ramp in Standard—Ramp got a nice boost from Cavern of Souls, which was what Jarvis Yu looked at the current iteration.

Limited

  • Undying: Back for More—Marcus Hensing is excited for flickering effects, three packs worth of undying picks, and an emerging Limited archetype.
  • DII #5—Nassim Ketita takes down a draft with a B/R deck. Watch him assemble it pick by pick.

  • DII #1—Melissa Detora cobbled together a W/U deck that she was able to pilot to a final game in round three.

Casual and Variant Formats

  • The Many Have Spoken—Sean McKeown gives works with a Rafiq deck that takes a friendlier—and less obvious—approach for the multi-player tables.
  • Mayel the AnimazingAvacyn Restored’s angels have sparked Cassidy Silver’s in Mayel, one of the most popular Commanders in the format.
  • Pentachomacy—Brandon Islieb talks about multiplayer matchups, and likens a good game to a narrative with a satisfying ending.
  • Momir Basic—Bruce Richard sets up a real-life game of Momir Basic, and highlights a few lessons he learned along the way.

Theory and Miscellany

  • Women in Magic, the 2012 Edition—Jackie Lee provides her take on the state of sexism in the community and suggests actions players can take to create a more welcoming environment.
  • Mastering Formats—Conley Woods considers how Wizards support and rotation schedule yield varied results for masters of individual formats.
  • Alter Review—Eric Klug reflects on some of his alters including a series of super-hero planeswalkers, and another series inspired by painter Alphonse Mucha.
  • March Review—Jeremy Froggatt documents the best alteration in the community. I’m partial to Masuli’s Rosheen and Blackwing’s ‘Walkers.
