A few months ago, I issued a challenge to create as many copies of Essence of the Wild as possible using only cards from Innistrad. Now that Dark Ascension has been fully revealed, I want to see how much better we can do using the new cards.
Challenge
Create as many copies of Essence of the Wild as you can by the end of turn five on the play. You may only use cards from Innistrad, and your deck must be exactly sixty cards.
The previous record was 11,696 Essences; the solution is here. How much better can you do?
Assumptions
You have perfect luck; for example, even after you shuffle your library, it's ordered how you want. You may not assume anything about your opponent's hand or library, except that he won't do anything relevant and he’s at an arbitrarily high life total. Only Essences that are on the battlefield at the end of turn five are counted.
Solution to Last Week’s Puzzle
The first solution I received to last week’s puzzle was from Rast, who cast it on turn two on the play:
Play | Creatures in Graveyard | Mana | Cards in Hand |
---|---|---|---|
Turn one | 0 | 7 | |
Forest | 0 | 6 | |
Avacyn's Pilgrim | 0 | 5 | |
Turn two | 0 | 6 | |
Mountain | 0 | 5 | |
Infernal Plunge, sacrificing Avacyn's Pilgrim | 1 | 4 | |
Faithless Looting, discarding two creatures | 3 | 3 | |
Faithless Looting, discarding two creatures | 5 | 2 | |
Faithless Looting, discarding two creatures | 7 | 1 | |
Ghoultree | 7 | 0 |
