New Old Kids on the Block

Reddit

I’m not sure if you’ve heard this, but the New Kids on the Block have started their reunion and plan a concert tour very soon. I was a fan of the “New Kids”, but I really think it’s a bit late. Let’s face it, if you wanted the girls you had to know the New Kids. It’s all about having “game”. If you didn’t get my advice and how this can impact your chances with the ladies (or gents), then you probably won’t understand the rest of this article… hehe

Now, with Block Constructed being the new challenge for all of you out there, one can’t help wonder what should a person play to make it to Pro Tour Berlin. I’m not sure if anyone else out there notices, but I tend to think that a lot of articles are made to misrepresent the writer’s "true" opinion on a format. Perhaps even to mislead you to playing a deck the writer would never dream of playing, merely creating a façade to defeat you in actual tourney match-up. I’m hoping this helps you all out there, because this REALLY is what I’m considering playing for the upcoming season. Let’s go!

First let’s look at some cards I think will have a sizable impact on block:

Savor the Moment – This is a 4 of in ANY of my decks that play blue. Who doesn’t like Time Walk? Whether it's Control or Faeries I will have this card in my deck.

Knollspine Invocation – This card can have a HUGE impact on block. The reason is because I think Goblins is a potential POWERHOUSE. Wort, Boggart Auntie with this card can combine to not only kill creatures but also to recur cards (like Nameless Inversion...) to do damage to the head of your opponent. Watch out for this card.

Ashenmore Gouger – MAN this guy is a HOUSE. Not only is he REALLY good for his cost, he’s a WARRIOR and I hear they're pretty good these days!

Fulminator Mage – Land destruction with Power and Toughness. 'Nuff Said

Lurebound Scarecrow – WOW the cost for this guy is nice. Turn 1: Treefolk Harbinger, Turn 2: Elf or something and BAM 4/4 for 3 naming Green. These new creatures will definitely make block constructed matches very short.

There are some under costed creatures which I’m sure will see play, but I think the cards I mentioned above are musts in their respective colors. Ultimately, I think Red and Green really benefited most from this new set. I’m not going to post decks (for now), but I wanted to talk about the top 4 deck types as I see them:

#1 Faeries – A big beating in standard constructed. This deck is even better for Block. Add Savor the Moment and it’s soo good.

#2 G/B/w Doran, the Siege Tower – All of the cards you might have seen since the invent of the Explorer? It gets better with cards like Rhys the Redeemed, Wilt-Leaf Cavaliers, and more. Lorwyn/Morningtide provided utility cards and some bomb creatures. Shadowmoor provides some icing to the cake.

#3 Warriors – Countryside Crusher, Ashenmore Gouger, and random R/G cards makes this a deck to beat. Think of the past with Fires of Yavimaya, and how well that deck did (in it’s time), now it’s with bigger creatures. Sheesh!!!

#4 Rogues – This archetype has some really good cards. Now, it just needs to come together. Synergy really does mean a lot and the Rogues just might have enough to overpower the Faeries, but I doubt it.

I’ll probably do a weekly on each of these builds for the month of May. Maybe, I’ll throw in an extra here and there. I really think Faeries has the MOJO. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m a big Doran fan and the deck shows the most versatility but I'm just not convinced.

Don’t forget to pick up your cards up soon! [csi] won’t have these cards for long.

I’d love to hear from anyone who has deck ideas. Check out the forums and share them!
