Jarvis Yu Lands a Legacy Trophy at Grand Prix Seattle-Tacoma

Reddit

The legacy of Grand Prix Seattle-Tacoma will be the robust diversity of the Legacy format. The Top 8 featured six distinct archetypes featuring cards from the entire history of Magic. The names of the decks tell the story of the game - Aluren; Dragon Prison; Mentor - in cards and combinations.

In the end only two decks remained. Jarvis Yu piloted Lands - a deck that either wins with a Marit Lage token, activated via the Legend rule, Dark Depths, and Thespian's Stage - to the elimination rounds. He put that combo to good use, taking both games of his semifinal match against Brian DeMars' Miracles in lightning quick fashion. His opponent in the ultimate round was Christian Calcano with Grixis Delver. The professional player and tournament grinder kept his opponents off balance all weekend with a powerful tempo deck featuring Delver of Secrets, Wasteland, and Gurmag Angler.

Game one was over rather quickly as Yu was able to stick The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale and removed every threat on Calcano's board. Game two of the finals was a more drawn out affair, but Jarvis' three copies of Maze of Ith bought him all the time in the world to set up Dark Depths and Thespian's Stage as he slowly whittled away every last one of Calcano's permanents.

Congratulations to Jarvis Yu - your Grand Prix Seattle-Tacoma Champion!
