Rumors are circulating concerning layoffs for Sony Online Entertainment. It seems every studio is having layoffs and thus it is affecting almost every game Sony Online Entertainment oversees. The SOE Denver studio is the one responsible for Magic: The Gathering Tactics and the game could be heavily affected depending on if these layoff rumors are true, and if so, the size of the staff let go.
The game 'Magic: The Gathering - Tactics' was released earlier this year after nearly 8 months of delays. It has been fairly quiet in terms of news or announcements since then, it is believed that the second set of Digital Objects for the game is due out in the next few months.
We have contacted both Sony Online Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast seeking their comment on the rumors.
Update 12:21pm EST: - Wizards had no comment on the issue.
Update 2:40pm EST: - Below is the official statement from SOE:
This strategic decision will have no impact on SOE’s current portfolio of live games; additionally SOE will transition development efforts for the Denver and Tucson studios’ suite of products to its San Diego headquarters. This strategic alignment of development resources better positions SOE to remain a global leader in online gaming and deliver on its promise of creating entertaining games for players of all ages, and servicing the 20 million players that visited SOE servers in just the past year.
