MTG Potpourri #4 – College in 2037

Reddit

Joining you this week is your host Tom, formerly of Monday Night Magic for many years, as well as two esteemed cohosts in Adam Styborski (@the_stybs) and Conley Woods (@conley81). Our goal is to bring you some Magic news, some pro-level talk, random topics du jour, and a little entertainment.

This week, we go over:

  • We spend a load of time talking about Modern, being the format of the day after Pro Tour Born of the Gods and with our sights on the upcoming mammoth Grand Prix Richmond.
  • Adam shares his hopes and fears for trying to tame the beast that is text coverage for DailyMTG at Grand Prix Richmond. There’s the potential for 5,000 players, spread over three halls. We can hope Red Bull gives Adam wings and not rampant diarrhea like it does for Tom.
  • Conley talks about the challenges from the pro perspective in approaching an enormous tournament for Constructed and how it differed from the Grand Prix in Las Vegas (Limited) having 4,492 players.
  • Erin from The Deck Tease podcast convinces us to talk about Modern card prices and how we think it would be best to have some staples reprinted to keep the format healthy and long-lived.
  • It then degenerates into Adam and Tom’s financial fears for paying for college in the year 2037 and Conley making one of my favorite quotes of all time. It’s near the end (for the lazy, zoom to 58:30), questionable in context at best, and worth listening to.
  • We also have an official e-mail address—mtgpotpourri {AT} gatheringmagic {DOT} com—as well as a Twitter handle @MTGPotpourri.
