Reenact the Crime in Bloomburrow Standard

Reddit

Hello Reader, and welcome back to my little corner of the universe where I get to talk about some sweet Standard brews that members of my community have been submitting for me to play on the MTGArena Standard ladder and for Magic: The Gathering Online Standard Leagues. Over the last few weeks, I've been playing everything from Boros (wr) and Jeskai (wur) Control featuring Caretaker's Talent, to Gruul (rg) Ramp, and my fair share of Annie Joins Up brews. Something I haven't really had a chance to explore, until this brew I'm about to present to you today, is a graveyard based strategy - and this one I think you might really enjoy! I present to you Dimir Reenact the Crime, originally submitted by Twitch user OkiScoop!

Reenact the Crime
I'll start off by mentioning that this is a deck that requires some practice and proper mulliganing decisions. When OkiScoop first submitted the deck, I had to take some extra time to look over the list and ask appropriate questions in terms of card selection. This is, in essence, a combo deck that takes advantage of a loop between Breach the Multiverse, Reenact the Crime, and Conspiracy Unraveler - and it should also be mentioned that this combo can happen as early as turn four if you have the proper sequence of cards. I would encourage you, reader, to play many practice matches with this deck so you can get used to the play patterns that the deck offers to you to reach the ultimate goal - milling your opponent out with multiple casts of Breach the Multiverse and Jace, the Perfected Mind.

The first thing you'd want to set up during the game is your draw & discard engine. Thankfully we have a few options for that here between Rona, Herald of Invasion, Collector's Vault, and Matzalanti, the Great Door // The Core. Collector's Vault is the preferred 2-drop option if you have to pick between that and Rona, Herald of Invasion, since Collector's Vault also allows you to create treasure tokens - which are later relevant for bargain reasons with Beseech the Mirror. Once you've set up your game, you can complete the combo as early as turn four by discarding a copy of Breach the Multiverse to your draw & discard engine, and casting Reenact the Crime on that copy of Breach the Multiverse. When Breach the Multiverse resolves, you will be looking for a copy of Conspiracy Unraveler to put onto the battlefield, plus something spicy you may have milled from your opponent. After you've established your Conspiracy Unraveler on the board, and assuming you've milled at least one other high mana-value card, like other copies of Breach the Multiverse, Atraxa, Grand Unifier, or additional Conspiracy Unravelers, you can start casting cards from your hand by collecting evidence 10 for each spell.

Breach the Multiverse
Thankfully, you don't necessarily need to have other high mana-value spells in your hand to continue the combo loop. This loop can continue with additional copies of Reenact the Crime on cards you or your opponent have milled off the Breach the Multiverse or by casting Beseech the Mirror for the tutor effect to grab another Breach the Multiverse. The copy of Jace, the Perfected Mind that can be tutored or put onto the battlefield from Breach the Multiverse can either serve the purpose of milling you additional cards to continue this loop, or looped to mill your opponent's entire library given additional copies of Breach the Multiverse and Reenact the Crime.

In the event that you aren't able to continue the combo loop that the deck presents in many ways, simply putting an Atraxa, Grand Unifier into play on turn four or five enables you to get additional combo pieces for later - and represents a clear threat on the board that your opponent must deal with as soon as possible. I've been really impressed with the one copy of Daring Waverider in this deck as well, as it allows you to have an additional opportunity to cast Reenact the Crime or Beseech the Mirror from your graveyard to keep the loop going, while serving as a six-mana value card in the graveyard for that evidence you need to collect.

As far as sideboard options are concerned, I would say that the majority of metagame deck selections are covered well here. There are additional copies of Harvester of Misery and Malicious Eclipse for if you're facing faster aggressive decks like Boros Convoke, Mono-Red, or Gruul (R/G) Aggro. Anoint with Affliction is also great against those same decks, in addition to Golgari Midrange. Negate and the additional copy of Jace, the Perfected Mind are to be brought in against any control variant, as well as Domain ramp. Interestingly enough, if you're playing against another over-the-top deck like Domain, or a ramp deck utilizing Etali, Primal Conqueror // Etali, Primal Sickness, it makes for some interesting Reenact the Crime choices that can actually occur at instant speed!

Be very wary of folks playing cards like Rest in Peace now, given the rise in graveyard strategies lately. Squirming Emergence decks are rising in popularity, and usually that deck is a good match for you as well - and because of that rise in popularity, you're bound to see more graveyard hate in sideboards all around. This deck has been an absolute blast to play, and I can't wait to jam many more matches with it! Let me know how you like it!
