Today, Helene Bergeot made an exciting announcement about the future of Grand Prix. Recently, Magic has been growing by leaps and bounds, and the prize structure and number of Grand Prix are increasing to match.

Starting with Grand Prix Dallas/Fort Worth this December, prize distribution will be based on attendance. For Grand Prix with 1,200 or fewer players, $35,000 will be distributed down to 64th place. For up to 1,400 players, the prizes increase to $44,000 and will be paid out to 100th place. In excess of 2,400 players, the prize pool increases to $54,000 and pays down to 150th place. The cash prize for winning a Grand Prix has been increased to $4,000 from $3,500. Head over here for a complete breakdown of prize distribution for events of all sizes.

Additionally, due to increased attendance and the widespread success of online pre-registration, on-site registration will no longer be available on the Saturday of an event, starting with Grand Prix Dallas/Fort Worth. This should help events start on-time and run more smoothly.

The return of Team Grand Prix has been largely well-received. However, there have been a number of logistical issues contributing to the excessive length of these events. As such, Day Two will begin with five rounds of Sealed Deck using new card pools. After the cut to Top 4 is made, both the semifinals and finals will consist of a team draft. Additionally, in order to reduce the number of rounds, all byes are being eliminated from Team Grand Prix.

With the addition of a fourth Pro Tour, there also needs to be a fourth Grand Prix season. The first season will run from December to March, the second from March to June, the third from June to September, and the fourth from September through December.
