What Are the Best Partner Combos for cEDH?

Reddit

Partner might be Magic's strongest keyword in the game. cEDH proves this fact almost daily with how many partner combinations are seen in the top brackets. Let's dive into what partner pairings are doing the best right now in cEDH.

Number One

Tymna the Weaver
Kraum, Ludevic's Opus

Starting off our list is the number one deck in cEDH right now: Tymna the Weaver and Kraum, Ludevic's Opus, also known as Blue Farm. These commanders give you both a ton of card advantage and access to the best colors in the format. While Thassa's Oracle and Demonic Consultation is the easiest combo to pull off, we can also run Underworld Breach along with Lion's Eye Diamond and Brain Freeze to mill out our opponents with ease.

Thassa's Oracle
Demonic Consultation
Underworld Breach

Ad Nauseam serves as a backup win condition. Playing so many cheap mana value cards allows us to draw almost half of our library and we should be able to win on the spot after resolving an Ad Nauseam. We are also playing the most powerful tutor colors. Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, Imperial Seal, Mystical Tutor, and Gamble are all cheap, effective ways to find what we need. Blue gives us all the free interaction we need to protect our win with the help of Force of Will, Fierce Guardianship, Mindbreak Trap, and Pact of Negation.

Rhystic Study
Ranger-Captain of Eos
Silence

Rhystic Study and Mystic Remora are additional card draw engines we can play in addition to our commanders. White allows us to play Silence and all similar effects, such as Ranger-Captain of Eos and Grand Abolisher. This deck gets to play all the fast mana, tutors, interaction, and the commanders give you all the cards you need to win. There is no disputing this deck is the best right now and it is all because of Partner!

Number Two

Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh
Silas Renn, Seeker Adept

cEDH can be a weird format, and this partner pairing is one of the oddities. Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh is a zero-mana commander that does nothing but have three combat abilities, and Silas Renn, Seeker Adept is just there for the colors he provides. This deck, known as RogSai, is a turbo Ad Nauseam deck. The goal of this deck is to resolve Ad Nauseam as fast as possible. Let's see how it manages to do so.

Fierce Guardianship
Deflecting Swat
Culling the Weak

Rograkh turns on cards like Fierce Guardianship, Deflecting Swat, and Flare of Duplication turn one, and we even can sacrifice our commander to cast things like Culling the Weak and Infernal Plunge. Getting this kind of advantage early in the game can help make sure Ad Nauseam is cast quickly and make sure it resolves. After drawing all the cards you need, end the game quickly with Thassa's Oracle.

Necropotence
Necrodominance
Borne Upon a Wind

Necropotence and Necrodominance are backup ways to draw a ton of cards. We can play Borne Upon a Wind and cast a ton during our end step to try and win, or even take an extra turn entirely with Final Fortune. This deck is all about speed and winning before your opponents have a chance to draw too many cards to slow you down.

Number Three

Kraum, Ludevic's Opus
Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools

The number three slot goes to Kraum, Ludevic's Opus and Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools. This is very similar to the two decks we already talked about, but you get to play some spicy cards with Tevesh Szat in the command zone. Tevesh Szat allows us to make some 0/1 Thrull tokens, which we use with his ability, sacrificing them to draw two cards. Displacer Kitten allows you to keep activating Tevesh Szat for each noncreature spell you play. Kraum is a nice backup card draw engine as well. This is a Grixis shell deck, so of course we are playing Thassa's Oracle and Underworld Breach lines.

Displacer Kitten
Hullbreaker Horror
Mana Crypt

Having solid card draw engines and easily executable combo lines leads to easy wins, but sometimes those wins get interrupted. This deck can also use Tevesh Szat as an outlet for victory if those other win conditions fail. Hullbreaker Horror allows us to bounce nonland permanents back to our hand. We only need a few mana rocks like Mana Crypt and Arcane Signet to make near-infinite mana. Replay Tevesh Szat with the Hullbreaker Horror and draw your way to victory.

Number Four

Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh
Thrasios, Triton Hero

These final two decks are very similar since they both have Thrasios, Triton Hero as one of the two commanders for the pairing. Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh serves the same purpose in this deck as RogSai, turning on our free spells like Fierce Guardianship. Thrasios, however, is much more interesting as a commander. For the cost of four colorless mana, we can activate his ability to drop a land into play or get some card advantage. 4 mana is a little steep for one card when you look at the card draw power of Tymna, but we also can draw our whole library if we have access to near-infinite colorless mana. This cEDH deck can win without Thassa's Oracle. I know, crazy.

Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy
Basalt Monolith
Dockside Extortionist

Getting near-infinite mana is the goal of this deck. Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy plus Basalt Monolith gets us there in a snap. Dockside Extortionist and Cloudstone Curio can also be used to make enough treasures to activate Thrasios near infinite times. Once we have our entire library in our hand, we can cast a Finale of Devastation to kill all of our opponents with combat damage.

Number Five

Thrasios, Triton Hero
Dargo, the Shipwrecker

The final deck is kinda a weird one. This build is similar to the previous pairing since Thrasios is here and we have Red, but our second commander is a lot more than zero mana. Dargo, the Shipwrecker is a massive seven-mana commander that has trample and costs two colorless less for each artifact and creature you have sacrificed this turn. Having a massive beater in the commander zone might not seem like the best thing for a cEDH game, but there are still ways to take advantage of him.

Greater Good
Birgi, God of Storytelling
Life's Legacy

Dargo can give us a huge influx of cards with the card Greater Good. Every time we sacrifice Dargo to Greater Good, we draw seven cards. Birgi, God of Storytelling // Harnfel, Horn of Bounty completes this combo by allowing us to keep recasting Dargo over and over again by giving us that required Red mana we need. Life's Legacy is also a nice inclusion that turns our commander into a two-mana draw seven.

Neoform
Eldritch Evolution
Tidespout Tyrant

Neoform, Eldritch Evolution, and Birthing Pod all can enable us to sacrifice Dargo to immediately get Tidespout Tyrant out of our library and into play. This works just like Hullbreaker Horror to generate us near-infinite mana to win with Thrasios's ability. This deck is more of a midrange Thrasios deck with larger card draw engines with Dargo as opposed to having Rograkh for enabling faster wins.

That does it for the top five partner pairings in cEDH. Just because these are the strongest, it doesn't mean there isn't tons of room to experiment. There are many partner pairings that do see play that I didn't go over. If you have a partner pair that you think can be cEDH viable, test it out! It is always exciting to see what new partner pairings will dominate the format, and maybe you just might be the pilot to pull that off! I hope you enjoyed this article and it inspires you to dive into cEDH if you haven't given it a shot yet.

See you on the Battlefield!
