What are the Most Valuable Cards in Bloomburrow?

Reddit

Bloomburrow has been out for just over a month now, and in usual Wizards of the Coast drumbeat, I'm already beginning to see Duskmourn spoilers in my Twitter feed. Before shifting focus to the new horror-themed set (which I am quite excited for), it's worth taking a close look at what Bloomburrow has to offer value-wise as the dust settles.

Typically, cards from a new set start off at a high point. Then as the set is opened more and metagames evolve, most new card prices decrease steadily until they hit a stable value. I'm not sure we've quite gotten to the bottom yet on Bloomburrow singles, but in most cases, it'll be better to buy singles you need now as compared to when cards first came out.

With all that said, what exactly are the cards that are rising to the top when it comes to card value? If you're still drafting Bloomburrow at your LGS and you're about to crack open that next play booster, which single card would be the best to open from a value standpoint (according to TCGplayer's market price)? Let's have a look at the top 10 most valuable cards from the set to find out!

As a reminder, I focused on regular, nonfoil printings of each card. These are singles that can theoretically be opened from a Bloomburrow play booster.

10. Ral, Crackling Wit - $8.76

Ral, Crackling Wit

Is it any surprise a Planeswalker from Bloomburrow is one of the most valuable? Even after all these years, players still love the allure of an exciting build-around Planeswalker, and Ral, Crackling Wit is no exception. Add in the fact that this version of Ral is an Otter, and you have the recipe for a fan favorite. The ultimate granting all your instants and sorceries storm is icing on the cake - players will surely find ways to execute broken lines of play in games of Commander!

9. Lumra, Bellow of the Woods - $10.22

Lumra, Bellow of the Woods

At number nine we have another mythic rare - this one in the form of a legendary creature. This Elemental Bear boasts significant power for its six mana. Right off the bat you have Vigilance and Reach, and a power/toughness number that's likely to start at six and climb throughout the game. Add in the bonus lands you get from Lumra, Bellow of the Woods enter the battlefield ability, and you have a formidable creature. That being said, unless this card breaks Standard open in the coming months, it wouldn't surprise me to see this card's value drift a little lower before it bottoms.

8. Rottenmouth Viper - $10.49

Rottenmouth Viper

Rottenmouth Viper is another mythic rare creature that I could see dropping in price a little further before it stabilizes. Don't get me wrong, this is a very powerful creature - you can cast it on the cheap if you want to sacrifice nonland permanents, and it can get quite out of hand if left unchecked! I can see this card impacting Standard as a 1-of or 2-of in a decklist, but time will tell if this can make the grade. In the meantime, it's still a worthwhile card to crack open in a Bloomburrow booster!

7. Maha, Its Feathers Night - $11.74

Maha, Its Feathers Night

I'm starting to notice a theme here: this is yet another mythic rare creature in the top ten! Maha, Its Feathers Night is definitely a powerful creature - the fact that it's a 6/5 flyer and trampler for just five mana is already aggressively costed, especially for Black. Historically, such a card would carry with it some sort of drawback, like having to pay two life or sacrifice a creature during upkeep. In the world of creature power creep, however, Maha, Its Feathers Night just has more upside. The ward ability means an opponent will likely have to two-for-one themselves to deal with the creature, and granting all your opponents' creatures base toughness 1 is just screaming "synergy" in the right Commander build. Nausea never looked so potent!

6. Caretaker's Talent - $11.79

Caretaker's Talent

Caretaker's Talent is the first card in the top 10 to be a regular rare and an enchantment. To maintain a $10 price tag at rare nowadays, a card must really stand out for its power and synergies. Caretaker's Talent definitely fits that description! By itself, the card combines exceptionally well with any token-based strategy (I'm thinking Commander here). Level two is a neat addition, but it's level three that really stands out to me. Intangible Virtue was already popular for boosting creature tokens +1/+1...giving them +2/+2 with Caretaker's Talent is sure to be a Casual and Commander favorite (hello Marneus Calgar!)

5. Beza, the Bounding Spring - $12.02

Beza, the Bounding Spring

As we crack into the Top 5 most valuable cards of Bloomburrow, we have yet another mythic rare creature: Beza, the Bounding Spring. This is a four-mana 4/5 creature on the surface, but it should go down in history as one of the greatest come-from-behind plays in Limited. Not only is the creature itself reasonably costed, it comes with anything you need to close the gap between you and your opponent. Treasures, life, creature tokens, cards in hand - you name it, this provides it to you if you're running at a deficit. I haven't been following Standard closely since rotation, but I can definitely see this card coming in handy in many matchups due to its versatility!

4. Ygra, Eater of All - $14.81

Ygra, Eater of All

I'm noticing a significant trend here. Yet again, a valuable Bloomburrow card happens to be a mythic rare creature, once again Legendary. Ygra, Eater of All is also aggressively costed as a 6/6 for five mana. That ward cost may seem odd at first glance, until you realize that its ability is symmetric, meaning all of your creatures and your opponents' creatures become food! When any food goes to the graveyard (such as to pay the ward cost), Ygra gets bigger. Not only is this a powerful Constructed card, I also see endless Commander possibilities due to its interaction with food. I'm not sure if it'll stay in the $15 range, but this card certainly merits a steeper price tag and would be a great pull from a booster pack.

3. Bria, Riptide Rogues - $15.79

Bria, Riptide Rogue

We're into the Top 3 most valuable cards from Bloomburrow, and it starts with yet another mythic rare, legendary creature. It seems this card type received a significant amount of love from the set's designers, and it shows in the demand for them! Bria, Riptide Rogue's superpower is the fact that (besides being an adorable otter) it grants all your creatures prowess! On top of that, Bria, Riptide Rogue can make one of your creatures unblockable for each noncreature spell you cast! This screams "build a deck around me," so it's no surprise that many players have decided to do just that, bolstering its price in the process.

2. Innkeeper's Talent - $19.63

Innkeeper's Talent

Once again, we have a rare enchantment bucking the trend most of this Top 10 list follows. Instead of a mythic rare legendary creature, we have a regular rare class. Don't be deceived by the lack of flashiness, though - this card packs a major Constructed punch! Remember how powerful Luminarch Aspirant was back in Zendikar Rising? Well, Innkeeper's Talent is a Luminarch Aspirant that's far less fragile (enchantments are tougher to kill than 1/1 creatures) and offers additional upside! For one Green mana, level 2 helps protect your team as long as they have a +1/+1 counter. Then, at level 3, you can double counters being placed on anything!

Net, you have an impressive Constructed card that will also wow Commander players for the simple reason that it doubles counters. I expect this card to remain one of the most valuable and desirable from Bloomburrow throughout its life in Standard, and possibly even beyond that.

1. Three Tree City - $23.08

Three Tree City

Number one on the list is a rare legendary land: Three Tree City. It's the only normal printing card from Bloomburrow that regularly sells for over $20. Despite being a solid F in Limited, Three Tree City is making waves in Commander. Just about every deck with a cohesive creature type theme will want to jam a copy of this land. On EDH REC, this card has already been added to over 32,000 decks (above 5% of every deck on the site). Remember, the card is only a month old!

This is one of those cards that gets better with time - whenever a new creature typal theme rises to the top, Three Tree City will be an auto-include in the deck. It's no wonder this land, which hasn't really made waves in 40-card or 60-card formats, is the most valuable from Bloomburrow to-date. You may have to hold your nose and rare draft this card, but if you do your draft will effectively be paid for thanks to this one card!

Wrapping It Up

That rounds out the top ten most valuable cards from Bloomburrow. One land, one planeswalker, two enchantments, and six creatures sums it up. Despite the predominance of creatures in the top ten list, it's an enchantment and land that take the top two slots - the former for its utility in Standard and Commander and the latter for its ubiquitous nature in Commander.

Before closing out, I want to highlight a few honorable mentions: special printings of cards that you'll only find when cracking specialized product like collector boosters.

As you can see, there's an array of raised foil, borderless cards that all demand a significant markup. These special printings start at $50 and rapidly rise from there, with the most valuable knocking on the door of $200! I typically have poor luck when cracking open sealed product, but at least a handful of players out there are cashing in on some very lucrative pack openings!

Best of luck to everyone as they continue to open up sealed Bloomburrow product. It'll be interesting to see where the dust settles a year from now, as Standard stabilizes and prices reach a steady-state. Until then, tread carefully when dealing in singles, and keep an eye out for these in your draft pods - you never know when your draft will become effectively free thanks to a bit of luck.
