This Week in Lorcana: Friday, August 30th

Reddit

Hello Illumineers! It's a new week here in the world of Lorcana. There's a lot to cover today, so let's jump right in.

Diego Saz wins Disney Lorcana Challenge: Toronto with Amber Emerald Discard!

DLC: Toronto has come and gone, and we're shipping off the final high-level competitive event using Ursula's Return with the Bucky errata. There was some huge speculator as to what decks would overperform during the event. One deck that converted well into day 2 was Amber Steelsongs, which ended up being Diego's opponent, piloted by David Nunez. The Top 8 players of this event will be heading to Continentals to compete for additional prizing and an invite to Worlds. Decklists for the final standings can be seen here.

Disney Lorcana Challenge: Seattle Sells Out In Minutes

As expected, tickets for the last and final DLC before Continentals and Worlds sold out in a record 3 minutes. There were a lot of cheers and jeers across all socials and I just can't help but to feel bad for those who have yet to experience a DLC. Attending Atlanta was a great pilot experience, and the events seem to be getting better and better. I will admit, it's getting a bit stressful for those who are trying to qualify for Continentals but remember, 2025 is right around the corner and with the success we're seeing in Disney Lorcana, I can only imagine what's in store for the competitive circuit then. If you're interested in joining the waitlist for either a competitive or attendee badge, I've provided some links below:

Meta Report

This week, we're seeing a lot of patterns when it comes to decks that are performing well in the meta. Amber Steelsong had a huge start in response to aggro decks, while being able to aggro themselves when given the right opportunity. In a response, we're seeing more Ruby/Sapphire decks tune themselves to respond to not only aggro, but Amber Steelsong as well. 8-cost Ruby Sisu really helps here when trying to ramp up to a one-sided board wipe. Since she can Shift on another Sisu for 6 ink, it's not at all impossible to completely shut down the game at the right moment when dealing with aggro and Amber Steelsong decks.

Sisu's ability, I Got This!, helps deal with aggro and Amber Steelsongs since the majority of their characters with Singer have a low Strength value. We're seeing more of her in both Ruby Sapphire and Ruby Amethyst decks. Make sure you adjust accordingly!

If you're looking for some decklists for some inspiration, I strongly recommend S4iler's two Ruby Sapphire lists, addressing both aggro-focused and control-focused metas:

Ruby Sapphire Decklists:

Amethyst/Sapphire, AKA Blurple, has been performing well in early testing and proves its impact in the meta by nabbing 1st place in a large constructed side event at DLC Toronto. There are some strong synergies with Belle - Accomplished Mystic and Elsa - The Fifth Spirit that helps put some damage on characters that typically aren't exerted. Mufasa - Ruler of Pride Rock also makes a game closing impact that demands answers. With Blurple being able to ramp and draw effectively, I'm excited to see the evolution of a less-commonly used ink pairing develop. If you're interested in the decklists mentioned above, you can view it here.

Lastly, we'll take a look at an Amethyst/Emerald list that has been performing well in Pixelborn Connect, an online client that allows you to play Lorcana over a webcam with a leaderboard ladder system. Amethyst/Emerald really struggled in Ursula's Return, but with some new tools, it's performing very well. Clarabelle - Light on Her Hooves continues to be a powerhouse, allowing you to commit your hand to the board without much repercussion by filling your hand size to match your opponent's. Locations and items used to be a problem, but not anymore thanks to You're Welcome. Emerald Chromicon continues to be one of, if not the most, impactful chromicons across the rest. The list can be found here.
