This Week In Lorcana: Friday, September 6th

Reddit

Greeting, Illumineers! We have another exciting week of Lorcana news and updates to go over. Without further adieu, let's roll right into them.

Brennan DeCandio wins Charlie's Collectible Show: $10K with Amber/Steel Songs

CCS in Stone Mountain, GA hosted a large $10K tournament that had 186 players play for their chance at a piece of the prize pool. A lot of eyes were on the results of this tournament, because this is one of the larger tournaments before DLC: Vegas and I'm sure there are still a few players locking down their deck choice and finalizing any last minute changes before the event. Day 1 consisted of swiss rounds, while day 2 wrapped up the last two swiss rounds before playing out a single-elimination top cut. Through all of that, Brennan DeCandio, known online as BDeCandio7, piloted an Amber Steel Songs deck, highlighting the use of Prince Naveen - Ukulele Player, a new Amber legendary from Disney Lorcana's latest set, Shimmering Skies. A lot of Steelsong players have been on the fence about this card, and it's great to see the theory put to practice. It also helps that Steelsong is positioned fairly well in the meta right now. We will, without a doubt, begin to see a wave of Ruby / Sapphire decks looking to capitalize on the larger share of Steelsong out on the field. Congratulations Brennan! I'm happy to see one of my favorite decks continuing to do well at the beginning of the Shimmering Skies meta.

Brennan's decklist can be seen here.

Any other reported decks are here.

Ravensburger Announces a New Episode of Lore Cast

Between the last two Disney Lorcana Challenges and a new set, I can't be the only one who's forgotten about the future of Lorcana. As a follow up from the details from D23, we can assume that we'll get more information on the next set, due to release November 15th in hobby stores, and November 29th in big box retail. Another topic of interest is the remaining details for both Disney Lorcana Challenge Continentals and Worlds. The last Lore Cast was a great source of information and a ton to talk about after the fact. The broadcast premiers at 10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET and can be watched on Twitch, found here.

Rules and Player Etiquette a Hot Topic on X

Disney Lorcana discussions on X are civil for the most part, but last week, we got to experience a lot of discussion on a particular powerful card, namely Pete - Game Referee. The issue that sparked the conversation was that if the player that played Pete did not announce his ability, Blow The Whistle, that the opposing player would be able to play actions during their turn. Reflecting on the conversation now, it's clear that some people need a reminder or game etiquette and how unwelcoming rules sharking can be. Remember, there are different calibers of people who play this game, and that we all started from somewhere to get where we are today. While Pete's effect is a mandatory trigger, there's little value in trying to catch someone in a "gotcha" moment because they didn't read the entire card to you. We all know what Pete does. Let's play good, clean games, and have fun doing so! Kyle, from Ravensburger, has done a good job describing the outcome with great context here.
