Victory! With the destruction of the Death Star, the Rebellion has given hope to a galaxy living in fear. Having lost their ultimate weapon, the Empire scrambles to recover in the face of this crushing defeat.
As the scattered fragments of the battle station rain down upon the Rebel base on Yavin 4, the Empire sets in motion a plan to seek retribution against Rebel forces stationed on the small moon.
Not long after, when an Imperial beacon begins to broadcast from an outpost some distance away from the Rebel base, a small team of elite operatives is dispatched; their mission: to silence the signal at all costs…
In Imperial Assault, 2-5 players join forces in an epic Star Wars adventure based on the Descent 2.0 system of combat and dungeon exploration. One player will control the Galactic Empire, pitting the Rebel Alliance against squadrons of Stormtroopers, deadly beasts, and even Darth Vader himself. The other players take control of Rebel Alliance Heroes, going on missions to continue their fight against the Empire. Can the Rebel Alliance work together to accomplish their missions, or will the Empire bring its forces to bear and squash the Rebellion? Find out in Imperial Assault!
Aftermath
The primary way to play Imperial Assault is through a campaign in which one player will take on the role of the Empire and the rest will play as Rebel Heroes, maintaining their roles for the duration of the campaign. The Rebels will work together, tackling missions to earn credits and experience so they can buy new, powerful items and cards from their class decks. Meanwhile, the Empire will be gathering influence and using it to throw new challenges at the Rebels, hoping to overcome them and keep them from accomplishing their missions. The campaign takes place over the course of several missions (determined by the Mission Deck constructed before the campaign), and whether the mission is a success or failure will help determine which mission comes next until the campaign culminates in one final mission.
Additionally, the Rebels will be faced with Side Missions as they try to accomplish their goals, creating new opportunities for growth or disaster should they run out of time to complete their main objectives. Succeeding on missions will provide the most opportunity for growth for the Rebels, but a skilled Empire player will do everything in their power to make sure that doesn't happen.

Pick Up and Play
Imperial Assault also comes with another way to play, right out of the box! Compete with another player in a 1v1 skirmish to complete a mission before the other player. Skirmishes use the same foundational rules as Campaign missions, but the players get to create their own unique armies to tackle the challenge ahead of them. Pick your figures and choose which powerful Command Cards you'd like to deploy, then take to the field and attempt to outmaneuver your opponent!
This 2-player variant of Imperial Assault opens up a new way to experience the game, letting players discover new synergies and compete against another player head-to-head in an intense 1v1 mission. Build your army, perfect your strategy, and get ready to Skirmish!
Extended Universe
Imperial Assault has no shortage of content beyond the base game. A long line of expansion packs has introduced new figures, Strike Missions, Command Cards, and more to game over its lifespan, and Fantasy Flight has kept the support coming. New Allies like Ahsoka Tano, Chewbacca, Han Solo, and more join the Rebels in their fight against the Empire.
However, new evils seek to oppose the Heroes, joining forces with the Imperials to squash the Rebellion and keep the galaxy in their iron grip. Watch out for Villains like Boba Fett, Emperor Palpatine, Greedo, IG-88, and Jabba the Hutt as they throw their might and cunning against the Rebel Heroes.
You can also embark on brand new, highly replayable campaigns with the full expansions like Heart of the Empire! With new missions, figures, map tiles, and cards, these big expansions will set you off on a brand new adventure and add plenty of new options for your Skirmishes!

Yet another new way to experience Imperial Assault has entered the fray! Introducing the Legends of the Alliance app, a companion app which allows players to join together in a cooperative campaign as the app takes on the role of the Imperial Player. The Legends of the Alliance app will tell players how to build maps, what units and tiles to place, and will control the Imperial Forces in opposition to the Rebel Heroes!
The app also keeps track of XP, Credits, and which Class and Item cards your characters have purchased, so you won't have to struggle to dig through your collection when you wish to continue your campaign. The app includes all of the Imperial and Mercenary forces from the Core Set. Additionally, you'll be able to play with any Hero you own, with units from the Expansions, Ally Packs, and Villain Packs being added in future updates.
