    To Rivendell

game cards next to a stack of tokens, with a few tokens placed on the game card

"If you want my advice, make for Rivendell. That journey should not prove too perilous, though the Road is no less easy than it was, and it will grow worse as the year fails."

Hunt for the Ring is a hidden movement game played in two parts in which one player is the ring-bearer, attempting to get the ring across the map and safely into Rivendell. The ring-bearer won't be unopposed, though. Up to four other players will work together to control the Nazgul, attempting to seek the ring-bearer out and corrupt them before they can make it to their destination.

Part One sees the ring-bearer attempting to cross the Shire and make it to Bree, recording their movement in secret so that the Nazgul must guess which path they'll take. Part Two covers the journey from Bree to Rivendell, and Frodo's path will be generated automatically. The ring-bearer will instead control Gandalf the Grey and attempt to protect Frodo and the Ring from the Nazgul. If the ring-bearer is able to bring the Ring to Rivendell before being corrupted, then they win. If the ring-bearer is corrupted at any time during the game, then the Ringwraiths win!

Can you safely make the journey to Rivendell as the ring-bearer, or will you fall to shadow? Can you find and corrupt the ring-bearer before they make it to their destination? Find out in Hunt for the Ring!

    Corruption

board game components laid out, including game board, tokens, player cards, character cards, miniatures, dice, and rulebooks

Corruption is a key concept in Hunt for the Ring. Whether the Ringwraiths win or lose hinges on whether or not the ring-bearer falls to corruption on their journey. The ring-bearer has a Corruption tracker that will fill up over the course of the game as a result of a few different things. Corruption can be gained through encounters with the Nazgul, weariness caused by moving during the Night Phase, or even the effects of Sorcery cards. Once the threshold has been met or exceeded, the ring-bearer falls to Corruption and the Ringwraiths win.

The ring-bearer must carefully manage their Corruption, making difficult choices about when to willingly take it on in order to put distance between them and the Nazgul. It's a fine line to walk, and the journey is difficult, but you'll need to overcome the influence of the Ring if you want to make it to Rivendell!

    A Game of Two Parts

game envelope, sealed with a red wax seal

Hunt for the Ring takes place over two parts, two legs of the journey from The Shire to Rivendell. In Part One, Frodo must make it to Bree before being found and corrupted by the Ringwraiths; and, in Part Two, Frodo must be protected by Gandalf as he and Strider make their way to Rivendell, hounded by the Ringwraiths and the Lord of the Nazgul.

In Part One, the ring-bearer takes their movement in secret, leaving it up to the Nazgul to find and corrupt Frodo by hunting for information, and engaging in encounters when the ring-bearer has been found. The Nazgul will roll action dice at the beginning of the round and use those dice to perform Perceptions, Hunts, play or draw Sorcery cards, or remove Ally tokens from the board. They'll need to use everything at their disposal if they want to find Frodo before he slips into Bree.

In Part Two, things heat up for the ring-bearer as the Lord of the Nazgul joins the game. Frodo will need protection, and he has Strider and Gandalf at his side to ward off the Nazgul and protect him as he makes his way to Rivendell. Strider leads Frodo along a predetermined path as the ring-bearer controls Gandalf, performing deeds to inspire Frodo and keep the Ringwraiths at bay. The Ringwraiths have a secret weapon, though. The Lord of the Nazgul adds a special die to the dice pool with powerful actions to help fight against their powerful foe. Will the Nazgul players be able to leverage their new resources against the ring-bearer and corrupt Frodo before he reaches Rivendell?
