During Pro Tour Shadows over Innistrad on Sunday, Director of Global Organized Play Helene Bergeot announced changes to Platinum appearance fees for Pro Tours after Pro Tour Eldritch Moon. The main change was the amount Platinum players received for appearing at a Pro Tour was reduced from $3,000 to $250.
The professional community was unhappy with this change. Players from other corners of the game also expressed their disdain for the decision through Twitter with #paythepros.
Today, Bergeot addressed the issue. Understanding that Wizards of the Coast betrayed the trust of the community Helene apologized on behalf of the company. She then went on to say that Platinum Benefits would be honored through the 2016-17 season, that the World Championship payout would stay at its increased state, with $70,000 for first place, and that Wizards would reassess plans with professional player input between now and Pro Tour Eldritch Moon.

We also fully understand the impact our decision had on the level of trust both pro players and the Magic community have in us, and we will continue to work hard to earn that trust back.
